Luka Modric won the FIFA Men's Best award for 2018. The Croatian who won the golden ball at the World Cup with and the Champions League with Real Madrid in May, beat Mohammed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo to be the first player other than Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win since Kaka in 2007.

Modric guided his country Croatia to it's first ever World Cup final. The Croats slipped at the final hurdle though, as they lost 4-2 to France at the final in Moscow. Modric however, won the golden ball award. The golden ball award is awarded to the player who performs the best at the finals. The winner is voted by the representatives of the media. The little magician was also apart of a Real Madrid team who were victorious over a strong Liverpool side in the Champions League final in Kiev. This was Modric's fourth Champions League medal.

He is undoubtably a complete midfielder. Modric is comfortable on the ball with quick feet and knows when to pick the right pass. His footwork is one of the best I have ever seen. This is how he strives past defenders at ease with no trouble. His defensive work is also a worth a mention. With energy in his system, he tracks back and intercepts passes. As the years have gone by, he has improved massively as a player. in 2013, after Modric had completed his first season with Los Blancos, he was voted as La Liga's worst signing of the season. Now he has earned football's greatest individual prize.
