Liverpool earned themselves a well deserved victory against French champions Paris Saint Germain. A threatening Liverpool side looked strong and sharp against a surprisingly poor PSG side.

Anfield was bouncing into it's classic European night intimidating atmosphere. The reds attacked towards the PSG goal showing energy and confidence. Full backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, both bombed down the flanks crossing the ball and making some key passes. The front three of Salah, Mane and surprise starter Daniel Sturridge, all performed well. Sturridge opened the scoring provided by an Andy Robertson cross. Sturridge headed the ball with power, making it challenging for goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

Georginio Wijnaldum was tripped by defender Juan Bernat in the penalty box 6 minutes later. James Milner made no mistake from the spot. Milner drives a hard and low shot into the bottom corner. The atmosphere for the away team is intimidating now because the Kop end hurts into a massive roar.

Only 4 minutes later, PSG silence the crowd by getting a goal back of their own. Thomas Meunier volleys home from an Angel Di Maria cross which bounces off Andy Robertson on the way in for the Belgian to fire into the net.

In the second half, Liverpool had a goal disallowed when Sturridge tried to beat Areola from close range, only for his kicking leg to follow through and foul the French keeper. Mo Salah tapped the ball in but the goal was chalked off. PSG attackers Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edinson Cavani all looked a shadow of their regular selves. Neymar, received a treatment of boo's from some of the home supporters and had a tough game battling with the Liverpool midfield, whilst Mbappe struggled to break down the solid and compact Liverpool defence.

PSG then silence the home crowd by getting an equaliser with 7 minutes to go. Salah gives the ball away which provides Neymar the chance to drive at speed into the box with space ahead of him. Virgl Van Dijk gets the slightest of touches to shift the ball away from Neymar's path, the ball found it's way to Kylian Mbappe who hit a hard shot to deliver a shock to the system.

It was a nervous 7 minutes to go but those nerves were restored in the 90th minute when first team starter Roberto Firmino came off the bench to score the winning goal and provide Liverpool their first 3 points of their new Champions League campaign. Firmino had picked up an eye injury which prevented him a starting spot in the team. Nonetheless, He definitely saw perfectly well when he hit that shot.
