The Bavarians just know how to win and so they did last night against a very tricky Borussia Dortmund side who play very attractive football. Bayern central midfielder Joshua Kimmich's beautiful chip over Dortmund keeper Roman Burki would be the only goal in the game.
Catch Us If You Can
The win puts Bayern Munich 7 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table. Borussia Dortmund, Bayern's title rivals, know that they cannot bare to see Munich lift an 8th consecutive
Bundesliga title.
Dortmund have been in fine form all season and gave Bayern a few scares in yesterdays game. Dortmund's iconic Yellow Wall stand may have been empty but another 'wall' would be more vocal and would do the job, but not for Dortmund.
David Alaba and Jerome Boateng, or you could say the 'red wall' showed the rest of Europe that they've still got it in them and even kept goalscoring machine Erling Haland quiet.
Thomas Muller is still important as always to Bayern Munich. The club legend has the most assists this season of 17 and still looks the player he was 5 years ago.
The Bavarians just have that cutting edge to win games, especially against their title rivals. 15 wins in 19 games have been achieved since Niko Kovac got the sack and Hans Dieter Flick came in as manager.
The Pole Who Loves Goals
Robert Lewandowski may be 31 but signs of slowing down will not get in the way of the Bayern Munich No.9.
Lewandowski still scores goals like it's his addiction. The Polish striker has been at the top of the scoring chart three times in the past four seasons in the Bundesliga.
In 2019/20 he's on course to reach those heights again with 27 shots beating those unfortunate goalkeepers.
Lewandowski now finds himself 3rd in the all time leading goalscorer chart in Germany's top flight. 221 goals scored and he's certainly not done yet. However, he'll have to get another 144 to beat all time leading goalscorer Gerd Muller.
Young Blood.
Alphonso Davies looks the real deal at left back. The Canadian is rapid and bombs up and down that left flank. He's not bad with his feet either.
Future Skipper?
Joshua Kimmich is 25 and has plenty of years ahead of him and of course has more trophies to chase. The underrated central midfielder who started off as a right back, undoubtably looks like a future Bayern Munich captain.
Manuel Neuer, the current captain of the club, is 34 and will be looking to hang up his boots soon.
Kimmich is very vocal and first class in the middle of the park. His reaction to the win yesterday just says it all. He roared like a bear (It wasn't quite a lion so a bear will do).
